Matters to this vault because material this chapter contains — the 1745 Heaton water-crisis report, the region's "about 48 inches" wagonway gauge figure — has been cited elsewhere (including in this vault's own prior notes) as "Hope-Dodds 1930," attributing it to the volume's general editor rather than to the section's actual named author. Direct reading found the chapter's own narrative of Heaton contradicts a popular 1745 closure date for "Heaton Banks" colliery, dating the colliery's actual end to 1852 instead.
