J. D. Williams

Head of the RAND Corporation's mathematics division in the early 1950s, and author of The Compleat Strategyst (1954), RAND's popular introduction to game theory.

Matters to this vault as the administrative figure both John Nash's and Rufus Isaacs's RAND-era work sat under: Nash's own 1952 report D-1164 names him as its direct requester ("This report is stimulated by a request from J. D. Williams for examples of games"), making him the one contemporary name a Tier-1 primary in this cluster actually confirms, in contrast to the still-unconfirmed direct-colleague bridge between Isaacs, Nash, and David Blackwell.
