Bouveret colophon catalogue
A six-volume reference work, Colophons de manuscrits occidentaux des origines au XVIe siècle, compiled by the Benedictine monks of Le Bouveret, Switzerland, between 1965 and 1982, listing 23,774 individually catalogued manuscript colophons — the single largest compiled colophon dataset in Western medieval studies.
Matters to this vault as the dataset underlying the 2025 Ommundsen et al. bibliometric colophon study, the clearest example found so far of a rigorous, citable, corpus-based colophon statistic — and, by the same token, the dataset the vault would most want a direct read of if Erik Kwakkel's "one in seven" colophon-frequency figure is ever to be checked against an actual corpus count. The catalogue itself was not directly consulted this session — only read about via the Ommundsen paper's description — and its own front matter might state what population of manuscripts it draws its entries from, which could bear on colophon-frequency questions generally.
