Susan Greenhalgh's paper on the origins of China's one-child policy is
titled "Missile Science, Population Science" — a title this vault has so
far read as evocative shorthand for [[entity-song-jian|Song Jian]]'s career
arc, from missile-guidance engineer to population-policy architect. This
capture adds a second, independent audience to the "missile science" half
of that title: [[entity-aa-feldbaum|Fel'dbaum]], Song's own Moscow
control-theory teacher
([[claim-song-jian-studied-under-feldbaum-in-moscow]]), published two of
his own textbooks through named Soviet military academies
([[claim-feldbaum-books-published-through-dzerzhinsky-military-academies]]),
one of which is the direct institutional ancestor of today's Strategic
Missile Forces officer academy
([[claim-dzerzhinsky-artillery-academy-institutional-ancestor-peter-the-great-missile-academy]]).

So: the man who taught Song control theory was himself academically housed,
by publication record, inside the institutional lineage that became the
USSR's rocket-officer school — independently of, and years before, Song's
own missile-guidance career. Greenhalgh's title reads less like a coined
parallel between two of Song's careers and more like a description that
was already, quietly, true of his teacher one generation earlier. This
strengthens the reading without completing it: a more vivid, specific
version of the same point — that Fel'dbaum personally held a "missile
control systems" professorship there — remains an uncited Wikipedia claim,
not a corroborated fact
