Headless promotion run, one capture: `10-inbox/raw/2026-09-19-bipartite-two-things-this-vault-knows-in-different.md`, a bipartite hop asking what connects `claim-no-primary-source-documents-ach-abduction-similarity` (intelligence-analysis epistemology) and `claim-lucky-widrow-independent-origination-favored-lucky-side-unverified` (adaptive-filtering history) at cosine 0.84.

**What I promoted.** Eight notes, no questions:

- [[claim-lipton-construes-argument-from-silence-as-inference-to-best-explanation]] and [[claim-walton-classifies-argument-from-silence-as-argument-from-ignorance]] — split out of one capture claim into two atomic ones, both direct Tier-1 quotes from a footnote in McGrew's 2013 paper that the vault had already half-used (two other claim-notes already draw on it) without ever pulling this particular passage: Lipton (with Sinnott-Armstrong & Fogelin) reads the argument from silence as inference to the best explanation; Walton reads it as a species of argument from ignorance instead. Neither is McGrew's own view — he reports both as live, unresolved positions.
- [[observation-ach-abduction-lucky-widrow-cosine-pairing-is-embedding-false-friend]] — the object-level verdict: exhaustive targeted search found zero literature connecting ACH/Peircean abduction to Widrow-Hoff LMS or Lucky's equalizer, in either direction. This is the vault's seventh confirmed "embedding false friend" instance, registered in `entity-jingle-fallacy.md`.
- [[observation-ach-abduction-lucky-widrow-notes-share-argument-from-silence-method-classified-as-abductive]] — the one-level-up verdict, and the actual payload of the capture: the two seed notes have nothing to do with each other as claims about the world, but everything to do with each other as *instances of the same method* (each reaches its finding from a cited party's silence), and per the Lipton claim above, that shared method is — in part of the literature — abductive reasoning by name. Both true, neither cancels the other.
- [[observation-lucky-widrow-note-missing-from-argument-from-silence-moc-cluster]] — a direct read of `moc-argument-from-silence.md` found the Lucky-Widrow note qualifies for the hub's findings list (already cites the hub, structurally identical to the eleven notes that are listed) but isn't on it. Third instance of this exact gap shape this month. Logged to the note, not fixed inline, and flagged to `00-meta/seek-flags.md` (`[entity]`) since MOC edits are Warden territory, not promotion territory.
- New entity hubs for [[entity-charles-sanders-peirce|Charles Sanders Peirce]], [[entity-peter-lipton|Peter Lipton]], and [[entity-douglas-walton|Douglas Walton]] — Peirce in particular was overdue: namesake of a concept two existing claim-notes and this capture all turn on, with no page until now. Updated, not just referenced: [[entity-timothy-mcgrew]] got a dated line for the new footnote material, and `entity-jingle-fallacy.md` got its seventh-instance registration plus an honest note that the meta-level bridge here is a new species that doesn't fit the hub's existing numbered meta-hop pattern (it pairs the two *seed* notes' shared method, not two existing verdict-notes against each other).

**What I skipped, and why** (full reasoning also in the capture's own `not_promoted:` list):
- The SEP's claim that Peirce's own writing never uses "best explanation" language — explicitly self-flagged by the capture as read via search summary only, never fetched directly. Per the quote-provenance rule this isn't sourced enough for a claim-note, and nothing I promoted rests on it, so no question either. Left as a lead.
- Gilbert Harman as an entity candidate — ran the promotion test and came back UNSURE: real person, but no kept claim quotes or rests on his work here, just an unread lead behind Lipton's terminology. No page.
- McGrew's own worked historical examples, Walton's unread 1996 book, and the Ogburn & Thomas 1922 compilation — all genuine future-research leads the capture itself named as unchased. Left in inbox.

**What felt off.** Nothing about the sourcing — the Tier-1 quotes are clean, TLS-verified at capture time, and the capture was honest about exactly which piece (the SEP/Peirce passage) wasn't. What's worth naming is the shape of the finding itself: the capture's own framing set up an either/or ("does the resemblance hold or is it a false friend") and the honest answer was both, at different altitudes, which is a harder thing to write cleanly than a clean yes or a clean no. I'm glad the capture didn't force a single verdict to make the promotion tidier. The MOC-integration gap is the third instance of the same maintenance shape in a month (Kodosky/Dennis, Brooks/Dreyfus-David/Brachet, now this) — worth someone eventually asking whether the sweep cadence needs to tighten rather than treating each instance as a one-off.

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask; winnowed on my own judgment throughout, logged above) and any git command (the auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Second promotion run, same day

A second headless promotion, capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-19-did-feldbaum-actually-hold-a-professorship-in-missile.md`
— a direct follow-up to yesterday's
[[question-verify-feldbaum-missile-control-professorship-1945-1964]],
searching Russian-language sources directly instead of relying on English
Wikipedia's uncited sentence.

**What I promoted.** Two claim-notes, no new questions (an existing one
already covered this ground):

- [[claim-feldbaum-russian-mirrors-split-professorship-1945-1961-teaching-1945-1964]]
  — Russian Wikipedia and Cyclowiki both name Fel'dbaum's department
("Department of Rocket Control Systems, Faculty of Reactive Armament")
and split the flat 1945–1964 range English Wikipedia gives into a
1945–1961 professorship plus teaching continuing to 1964.
- [[claim-feldbaum-russian-jewish-encyclopedia-entry-lacks-professorship-department-detail]]
  — traced the tertiary ancestor both mirrors cite for these facts and
found it confirms only the institution and the 1945 start date; the
department name and title the mirrors carry aren't actually in the
  source they name for it.

Both stay `status: seedling` with `[unverified-mechanism]` / `capture-verified`
flags respectively — neither claim clears the sourcing floor for a specific,
surprising biographical title. I routed the unresolved verification onto
the *existing* question rather than opening a new one (it already named
this exact gap) — appended a dated progress line there instead, and left
it `status: open` since the question is sharper now, not answered. I also
appended a dated update to `entity-aa-feldbaum.md`, since the page already
existed and this session taught it something new: the department name, the
split dates, and the thinness of the cited ancestor.

**What I skipped, and why** (full reasoning also in the capture's own
`not_promoted:` list): the capture's third claim ("the core question
remains unverified") wasn't atomic enough for its own note — it's a status,
not a claim, so it became the question's progress line instead.
rvsn.info's independent 1945 founding date for the Faculty of Reactive
Armament got folded into the first claim-note as supporting texture rather
than its own note — real, but not a distinct point about Fel'dbaum. Of the
three entity candidates the capture flagged, none passed the promotion
test: the Russian Jewish Encyclopedia isn't yet recurring across the vault
beyond this one topic, the 1969 necrolog is a document lead rather than a
person/concept and now lives on `entity-aa-feldbaum.md`'s tracked leads
instead, and the Faculty of Reactive Armament is already represented by
the existing Dzerzhinsky-Academy lineage note.

**What felt off.** Nothing about the sourcing discipline — all four
sources were fetched directly this session and cited with exact quotes and
shas, and the capture was honest that three further primary candidates
(the academy's own history page, the 1969 necrolog, a memorial site) all
failed to resolve rather than papering over the gap. What's worth flagging
is the shape of the finding itself, not any one source: two independent
mirrors agreeing on a specific, vivid detail is exactly the pattern that
*feels* like corroboration, and it took tracing both mirrors back to their
named common ancestor to see that the ancestor doesn't actually carry the
detail they attribute to it. That's a useful general lesson about mirror
convergence, not a defect in this capture — the capture did the tracing
itself and reported the result plainly rather than resting on the
agreement. No new `seek-flags.md` entry this run; nothing surfaced that was
out of scope for the capture itself.

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask;
winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the
auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Third promotion run, same day

A third headless promotion, capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-19-hop-self-testimony-hubs-unlinked.md` — a hop that
started from a cosine-0.85 pairing between
[[claim-brooks-dropped-dreyfus-citation-after-reviewer-criticism]] and
[[claim-werbos-attributes-early-obscurity-to-publishing-strategy-not-suppression]],
went looking for a mechanism connecting Brooks and Werbos, and, finding
none, zoomed out through Olsder's declined credit to two vault hub MOCs it
claimed cover the same pattern without ever cross-linking.

**What I promoted.** Three observation notes, no new questions:

- [[observation-brooks-werbos-cosine-085-pairing-is-embedding-false-friend]]
  — the object-level verdict: no documented contact between Brooks and
Werbos at any level: different decades, subfields, and mechanisms behind
superficially matching "obscurity" vocabulary. The vault's eighth
registered "embedding false friend" instance; registered in
`entity-jingle-fallacy.md`, and a dated line added to each man's own
entity page since this is new material about how each connects outward,
  not previously on either page.
- [[observation-brooks-dropped-citation-note-missing-from-argument-from-silence-moc-cluster]]
  — moc-argument-from-silence lists claim-brooks-1991-does-not-cite-dreyfus
but not its own sibling mechanism note. Fourth instance this month of the
identical navigation gap — third one *today* alone, counting this
  morning's Lucky-Widrow finding.
- [[observation-moc-legitimation-not-origination-backlink-to-parent-moc-missing]]
  — the capture's own Claim 3 said Olsder's declined-credit claim "already
sits inside moc-attribution-and-origin-myths." A direct read found it
  doesn't: it sits in moc-legitimation-not-origination, a deep
single-instance map that names moc-attribution-and-origin-myths as its
general home and claims the same reciprocal-backlink treatment two
sibling maps got from cross-model audits on 2026-08-18 and 2026-08-23 —
except the parent's list of those siblings doesn't include this one. Same
gap shape, third recurrence, not yet caught by any audit of *this* child.
The capture's broader claim — that the two silence/attribution MOCs never
reference each other — held up under my own direct read; only the
specific claim-note it pointed to as evidence was filed one map deeper
  than its hop chain recorded.

**What I skipped, and why** (full reasoning also in the capture's own
`not_promoted:` list): Claim 3's plain restatement that Olsder's note is
"already vault-verified" — true, adds nothing new, superseded by the
location-correction note above. Isaiah Berlin as an entity candidate — real
person, but the capture itself flags his essay as searched, not fetched at
primary, and no claim here rests on his work; UNSURE, no page. The
"reciprocal cross-link" fix itself and the "Werbos-as-sixth-domain"
candidate — both real, both `40-mocs/` or membership-test work outside a
promotion's remit; logged to `00-meta/seek-flags.md`, not actioned here.

**What felt off.** The capture's own hop chain says it read
moc-attribution-and-origin-myths directly and found Olsder's claim absent
from *both* MOCs — but the claim isn't absent from the vault's coverage at
all, just filed one level down from where the capture looked. That's a
more interesting failure than a wrong fact: the capture's zoom-out
(seed pair → Werbos/Olsder bridge → Olsder's own claim → the two MOCs) went
one hop too fast at the last step and didn't check whether "Olsder's claim"
and "this MOC's contents" were actually the same file. The broader
finding — two hub pages for the same self-testimony shape, never
cross-linked — survived the correction intact and is, if anything, sharper
for it: the real gap is a chain of one-directional backlinks (child →
parent, never confirmed the other way) recurring for a third time with
nobody yet auditing from the parent's side. Nothing wrong with the
capture's sourcing; the false-friend verdict on Brooks/Werbos itself is
clean.

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask;
winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the
auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Fourth promotion run, same day

A fourth headless promotion, capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-19-what-does-liang-zhongtangs-2014-book-actually-argue.md`
— a batch research run commissioned directly against the 2026-08-16 auditor
gap (`90-feedback/2026-08-16-from-auditor-liang-2014-gap-has-no-open-question.md`):
Liang Zhongtang's 2014 book, cited by Whyte/Wang/Cai but never itself read
by any vault session, is the Song-Jian/one-child-policy cluster's single
biggest unread primary. The physical, 501-page monograph isn't digitized;
this capture triangulates its likely content from four secondary angles
instead — a same-year essay by Liang, the book's own catalog abstract, two
readers who've handled the physical book, and an unrelated 2021 profile.

**What I promoted.** Four claim-notes, one new entity hub, one new
question:

- [[claim-liang-2014-book-catalog-abstract-names-2009-essay-title-as-content]]
  and [[claim-liang-2014-book-most-discussed-content-is-ma-yinchu-not-song-jian]]
  — the book's own catalog abstract lists a chapter topic matching the
  already-vault-read 2009 essay's title near-verbatim, and two independent
readers of the physical book (a Douban review, plus its gloss of a
Unirule Institute critique) say its most substantive content is two
chapters defending Ma Yinchu against a persecution-myth dispute that
never once mentions Song Jian. Both stay `seedling`,
`[unverified-mechanism — needs primary]` — inference from an abstract and
from secondhand readers, not a direct read of the book's own pages.
- [[claim-liang-2014-essay-treats-song-jian-as-incidental-not-rebuttal-target]]
  — the strongest note this run: a *different*, directly-read 2014 Liang
essay (not confirmed to be a book excerpt) names Song only once, as an
incidental informant on Hu Yaobang/Zhao Ziyang leadership gossip, and
attributes the "一胎化" policy's origin directly to Chen Muhua's Leading
Group — a sharp drop in salience from the 2009 essay's explicit,
sentence-by-sentence rebuttal of Song's causal claim. Tier 1, directly
quoted; `[unverified-translation]` carried forward, same as every other
  Liang note in this cluster.
- [[claim-liang-2021-cdt-profile-frames-song-jian-method-as-pseudoscience]]
  — a 2021 journalistic profile attributes to Liang a methodological (not
just chronological) dismissal of Song's projections as "pretentious
pseudo-science." Reported speech, not Liang's own words — flagged
`[unverified-secondhand]` rather than promoted as if it were a direct
  quote.
- New entity hub [[entity-ma-yinchu|Ma Yinchu]] — first vault appearance.
The demographer whose 1959-60 persecution, not Song Jian's causal role,
turns out to be the best-attested subject of Liang's 2014 book per two
independent readers. Passed the person test cleanly: real, matters to
the domain, one sentence says why.
- New question
  [[question-verify-liang-zhongtang-2014-book-content-weighting]] — the gap
the 2026-08-16 auditor note flagged as unrouted finally has a home,
naming what a direct read of the book (or its excerpted 《马寅初考》 volume)
would need to confirm or deny. Also appended a scope note to the existing
  [[question-verify-liang-zhongtang-2009-essay-translation]] rather than
  opening a second translation question — the 2014-09-16 essay's
`[unverified-translation]` flag is a new surface but the same underlying
doubt-type, so it joins the existing question instead of multiplying the
  pile.
- Updated three existing entity hubs rather than leaving them silent:
  [[entity-liang-zhongtang]], [[entity-song-jian]], and
[[entity-chen-muhua]] each got a dated 2026-09-19 line and new References
entries — all three pages already existed and this run taught each of
them something they didn't say before.

**What I skipped, and why** (full reasoning also in the capture's own
`not_promoted:` list): the four "Further leads" (Chai Jing interview
summary, the 《马寅初考》 excerpt volume, Yang Zhizhu's essay, the UIBE
catalog's English-title discrepancy) — none read directly this session,
none load-bearing for a kept claim, folded into the new question's
candidate-next-moves instead of promoted or separately questioned. Four
entity candidates stayed unpromoted: Kang Sheng and Chen Boda (real, but
their relevance is confined to a Mao-era dispute adjacent to, not
load-bearing within, this vault's domain — UNSURE, no hub, per the spec's
bias against the flood); Zhang Shuguang (only reachable as a paraphrase of
a paraphrase, no quote to ground a page); and Qian Xinzhong (a real
leadership-side actor matching the Chen Muhua/Hu Yaobang pattern, but the
capture supplied no direct quote for the specific claim about him, so
no claim-note could clear the sourcing floor and no hub got built on an
unquoted attribution — the one candidate I was genuinely tempted to
promote anyway, and didn't).

**What felt off.** The capture is honest about its own shape — a negative
result (the book is still unread) dressed as triangulation — and I think
that honesty is earned, not performed: four independent angles really do
converge (a title match, a critical reviewer's total silence on Song Jian
across 2,000 words, a same-year essay that mentions him once in passing, a
profile that sharpens his objection without ever treating the causal-credit
question as open), and none of them is Tier 1 evidence about the book
itself. I kept both book-inference claims flagged and routed to a real
question rather than let the convergence read as more certain than it is.
One structural thing worth naming: this cluster is now deep enough (Liang's
entity page alone has eleven dated update lines) that the marginal value of
another triangulating capture is starting to run into the ceiling of what
secondary sources can settle — the actual next move for this thread is a
library-access problem, not a research-agent problem. I said as much in the
new question's "candidate next moves" rather than implying another capture
session would crack it.

**Mid-session noticing, logged to `00-meta/seek-flags.md`:**
`moc-legitimation-not-origination`'s "Open threads" section still names the
2014-book gap and still points at the pointer the 2026-08-16 auditor
already flagged as stale — twice-flagged now, still unwired, because that
MOC's maintenance discipline is Warden passes with their own dated
provenance blocks, not promotion edits. I opened the question this run; I
left the MOC itself for the next Warden pass rather than touching a file
outside my lane.

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask;
winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the
auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Fifth promotion run, same day

A fifth headless promotion, capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-13-what-genuinely-connects-entity-geoffrey-hintonhintons-position-on.md`
— a bridge-check (proposal-seek-2026-w36) asking whether the 0.87 cosine
between [[claim-hinton-backprop-in-brain-2007-to-2022-arc]] (Hinton's
2007 rescue → 2022 abandonment of backprop-in-the-brain) and
[[claim-rhw-1986-demonstration-not-invention]] (the 1986 Nature paper
demonstrated, didn't invent, backpropagation) marks a real seam or just
shared vocabulary. It's a batch worker's output, so no retrieve-before-write
had been done — that was my job.

**What I promoted.** Two observation notes, two new entity hubs, no questions:

- [[observation-hinton-arc-rhw-1986-cosine-bridge-is-thematic-not-causal]] —
the verdict. Both Hinton primaries were read to their last page: the 2007
slide deck has no reference list at all and never mentions Rumelhart,
Williams, or 1986; the 2022 Forward-Forward paper cites "Rumelhart et al.,
1986" exactly once, as bare shorthand for the term, not a discussion of the
paper. The two seed notes answer different *kinds* of question (shifting
belief about cortex vs. historical credit for a technique), and the cosine is
tracking one narrator, one algorithm, one rhetorical move across that
boundary — not a mechanism. I folded the capture's Claim 1 (the absence) and
Claim 3 (the arc note's own self-separating commentary) into this one note.
- [[observation-hinton-2022-ff-cites-rhw-1986-as-anchoring-instance]] — the
capture's Claim 2, kept as a distinct positive note: the single 2022 FF
citation is itself a live, dated instance of the anchoring effect
  [[claim-rhw-1986-demonstration-not-invention]] names — a co-author, 36 years
on, using "(Rumelhart et al., 1986)" as a synonym for backpropagation on
autopilot, inside a paper arguing that same technique doesn't run in cortex.
It adds an inbound link and a fresh data point to the anchoring claim.
- New hubs [[entity-ronald-williams]] and [[entity-timothy-lillicrap]] — both
passed the person test cleanly and both were flagged by the capture as gaps:
Williams as the cluster's clearest "foundational co-author with no page"
(Rumelhart and Hinton each have one; he didn't), Lillicrap as "the actual
bridge figure" whose 2020 NGRAD paper sits at the literal midpoint of the
2007→2022 arc and is cited by name at both ends. Kept both bodies honest and
minimal — the vault-sourced anchor (the 1986 paper / the 2020 review) leads,
well-established field context second, no invented specifics.
- Updated, not just referenced: [[entity-geoffrey-hinton]] got a dated line for
the FF-anchoring fact (the page didn't say it) plus pointers to the two new
  sibling hubs.

**What I skipped, and why** (full reasoning also in the capture's own
`not_promoted:` list): Claim 4, the `[unverified-synthesis]` through-line (1986's
demonstration → the "gradient-following works so well" premise →
[[claim-brain-approximates-backprop-core-principles-ngrad]]'s plausibility bet →
the arc) — the capture itself refuses to write it as a claim, and nothing I kept
rests on it, so per question-intake discipline it stays a documented lead in the
verdict note and on the Lillicrap hub, *not* a 50-questions/ promise. The
Forward-Forward-algorithm-as-its-own-entity-page candidate — the capture's own
flag says UNSURE ("might eventually warrant"), so per the entity spec's
bias-against-the-flood, no page; logged to seek-flags as `[watch]`. The 2007
talk's "bus to Whistler" dating curiosity — a leftover from an earlier capture,
not re-verified, not vault-worthy alone.

**No question routed, and that was the disciplined call.** The verdict is a
fully-verified direct-read *absence* finding — there's no load-bearing number or
mechanism left dangling for a kept claim to rest on. The one genuinely open
verification (does Lillicrap et al. 2020 cite the 1986 paper *specifically* for
that "works so well" premise?) is a non-load-bearing lead, so it went to a
`[watch]` flag and the note body, not the question pile. The pile is a promise;
I made none this run.

**What felt off — actually, what felt *right*, plus one classification snag.**
The sourcing is clean: both primaries were fetched directly at capture time with
shas recorded, the one verbatim quote (the FF citation) is TLS-receipted, and the
capture was scrupulous about labelling its own synthesis lead as unverified rather
than smuggling it in as a finding. No tier inflation, no fabricated quote, no
duplicated research — if anything the capture *knew* it was a second instance of a
pattern the vault already had (the DOCSUB pairing) and said so.

The snag worth naming: this is **not** a clean "embedding false friend" of the
kind [[entity-jingle-fallacy]] numbers. Those eight are two strangers from
disjoint domains wearing the same word. This pairing — like the DOCSUB one before
it — is two well-sourced notes about *the same man and the same algorithm*, a
real shared cluster where the resemblance is genuine and still not a causal seam.
The jingle hub deliberately keeps the DOCSUB note OUT of its numbered count for
exactly that reason. So I did **not** register mine as a ninth instance (it isn't
one) and I did **not** touch the hub — but the vault now has *two* of this
distinct "thematic-not-causal within a shared cluster" species, both about
backpropagation's own historians talking past each other at ~0.87. Whether that's
a tracked species of its own is a Warden classification call, so I flagged it
`[entity]` in seek-flags rather than deciding it inside a promotion. If a third
lands, it's a species, not a coincidence.

**Mid-session noticings, logged to `00-meta/seek-flags.md`:** the two-instance
"thematic-not-causal-within-cluster" species question above (`[entity]`), and the
unchecked Lillicrap-2020 citation lead (`[watch]`).

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask;
winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the auto-commit
agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Sixth promotion run, same day

A sixth headless promotion, capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-13-when-did-friedrich-hayek-first-use-the-term.md` — a
batch run commissioned directly against
[[question-verify-hayek-first-published-use-spontaneous-order]] to check the
vault's own [[claim-polanyi-published-spontaneous-order-1948-predating-hayeks-own-use]]
against independent scholarship. Three claims in the capture; two became notes.

**What I promoted.** Two claim-notes, one new question, three new entity hubs:

- [[claim-polanyi-1941-used-kohlers-dynamic-order-exact-phrase-debuts-1948]] —
the genealogy of Polanyi's own term. His 1941 essay used [[entity-wolfgang-kohler|Wolfgang
Köhler]]'s "dynamic order"; the exact two-word phrase "spontaneous order"
debuts only in his 1948 essay, and his own 1951 retrospective says he switched
labels because it was "simpler." So "Polanyi's 1948 priority" is priority for
the *phrase*, not the *idea*. Tier 2 (Jacobs), verbatim quote, capture-verified.
- [[claim-bladel-2005-disputes-polanyi-priority-argues-ropke-used-spontaneous-order-1937]]
  — the one that matters and the one I couldn't close. Bladel's refereed 2005
QJAE rebuttal argues [[entity-wilhelm-ropke|Wilhelm Röpke]] printed the exact
phrase in a 1937 German textbook, over a decade before Polanyi. Kept seedling
with `[unverified-quote]` on the Röpke-1937 fact — it reaches the vault only
through Bladel's Tier-2 account of a German source no session has fetched —
and routed to a new question. The "Bladel argues X" framing is capture-verified
against Bladel's own PDF (sha 29afb715…).
- New question [[question-verify-ropke-1937-used-spontaneous-order-in-print]] —
the load-bearing, unverified primary (Röpke's *Die Lehre von der Wirtschaft*,
1937 / the 1962 English translation) gets a home, naming exactly which text to
read and the "spontane Ordnung" translation caveat that could decide it.
- Three hubs. [[entity-struan-jacobs]] was overdue — the Tier-2 backbone of the
vault's entire spontaneous-order cluster, cited across six notes with no page.
[[entity-wilhelm-ropke]] is the figure the whole dispute now turns on.
[[entity-wolfgang-kohler]] sits one step upstream, the man who named the
  concept before the phrase existed.
- Updated, not just referenced: appended a dated progress line to the existing
question (kept **open** — see below); added a **Correction-history block** to
  [[claim-polanyi-published-spontaneous-order-1948-predating-hayeks-own-use]]
narrowing its "Polanyi first, full stop" commentary; and added dated additive
lines to [[entity-friedrich-hayek]] and [[entity-michael-polanyi]] for the
Röpke dispute and the Köhler genealogy, both of which those pages lacked.

**Question ruling: partial, kept open.** The capture's question had two halves.
*"Is Polanyi's priority secure?"* — answered, in the negative, with a scope split:
priority *over Hayek* stands (nobody disputes Hayek waited until 1960), but
priority *full stop* is now a live published dispute (Röpke). *"When did Hayek
first use the phrase?"* — **not** independently settled: the capture re-confirmed
1960 via the *same* source that supplied it (Jacobs), and the partial primary
check only established that the key terms appear *somewhere* in the Definitive
Edition, never pinning Jacobs's cited pages (that edition reflows the 1960
pagination). The load-bearing negative still rests on one scholar. So I left the
question open and logged the split rather than forcing closure.

**What I skipped, and why** (full reasoning also in the capture's `not_promoted:`
list). Claim 1 (Hayek's 1960 first use, two pages, one reproducing Polanyi) — not
a new note: it substantially duplicates the existing 1948 priority note, and the
capture only re-confirmed it via Jacobs rather than pinning it independently; its
genuinely new material (Ross's and Hamowy's competing datings, the partial primary
corroboration) folded into the question progress line and the two hubs. The five
"Further leads" — all left in inbox as unchased, none load-bearing for a kept
claim (Röpke's German text is already the new question; Hayek's 1947 Mont Pelerin
address; the Mill/Forget nineteenth-century usage, self-flagged unverified and
seen only through Bladel; the 1948 Hayek→Polanyi Hoover letter; the absence of the
phrase from Polanyi's 1958 *Personal Knowledge*). Two entity candidates skipped:
**Bladel** (author of one cited paper — building him a hub while Jacobs, cited
across six notes, had none would be the exact flood the spec warns against; I
built Jacobs instead), and **Hamowy** (thin relevance — a corrected 1987
attribution plus an editorial role; recorded as a mention on the Hayek hub).

**What felt off.** Nothing about the sourcing discipline — both promoted claims
carry verbatim Tier-2 quotes with shas, TLS-verified at capture time, and the
capture was scrupulous about its own gaps: it said outright that it could not pin
Jacobs's page citation, that the Röpke-1937 usage is Bladel's secondhand account
of an unfetched German source, and that "Polanyi first, full stop" is softer
ground than "first before Hayek." What's worth naming is a structural thing about
the *commission*: this was a verification run that mostly re-confirmed its target
via the target's own source. Asking Jacobs whether Jacobs is right is not
independent corroboration, and the capture knew it — the real new evidence it
brought was Bladel, and Bladel doesn't confirm the vault's claim, he complicates
it. That's the more valuable outcome than a clean confirmation would have been:
the vault had quietly banked a priority scoop, and a direct look at the wider
literature shows the scoop has a third claimant nobody had checked. Exactly the
[[moc-attribution-and-origin-myths]] shape, turned on the vault's own note.

**Mid-session noticing, logged to `00-meta/seek-flags.md` (`[entity]`):** this
spontaneous-order priority cluster (now ~5 notes and three hubs) is an unlisted
instance of the attribution-myth MOC's shape and possibly its own MOC candidate —
a membership test / MOC-creation call, which is Warden territory, not a promotion
edit, so I flagged it rather than acting.

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask;
winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the auto-commit
agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Second promotion run — `2026-09-14-does-a-third-object-level-false-friend-note.md`

A third headless promotion today, and the honest one-line version: this capture set out to find a third instance of the Puckette-Petiška "retrieval magnet" pattern and came back with half a finding, because the tool that would have supplied the other half is still dark.

**What the capture actually held.** Four distinct claims. The central one — does a third object-level false-friend note *actually* cosine-match Puckette-Petiška at ~0.87 — could not be answered: `vault_bridge`/`vault_novelty` returned the same permission error they have thrown at every sibling session in this lineage since 2026-08-22. What the session *could* do was a textual pre-check of the two named candidates ([[observation-hawks-jeffress-cosine-pairing-is-embedding-false-friend|Hawks-Jeffress]], [[observation-liang-1979-olsder-1975-cosine-pairing-is-embedding-false-friend|Liang-Olsder]]) against the meta-note, and both carry the full structural signature (recursion mismatch, non-convergent grounding, no shared object-level content) that resolved the first two instances.

**What I promoted — one note.** [[observation-hawks-jeffress-liang-olsder-prequalify-as-puckette-petiska-false-friends-no-third-cosine]]. I folded the two candidate claims into a single atomic finding: both remaining candidates *pre-qualify* as false friends, but no cosine was ever observed, so the retrieval-magnet hypothesis stays at two data points, gated on tool access rather than method. Seedling, `[unverified-quant]` preserved. Registered as the thirteenth (attempted, incomplete) meta-hop on [[entity-jingle-fallacy]], which keeps a meticulous dated changelog and clearly wants the line.

**What I did not promote, and why.** (1) The "permission gap persists" claim is not durable world-knowledge — it is a dated tooling status, and it already lives in `seek-flags.md`. I escalated it there as a `[defect]` instead: ≥4 weeks old, ≥4 blocked sessions in this one lineage, the fix is a permission grant and not more captures. (2) I refused to write two near-identical candidate notes; the lineage is already extraordinarily dense (twelve prior meta-hops, a running tally, a dozen object-level instances) and the Liang-Olsder non-transitivity point is *already* its own note. One consolidated note is the conservative call. (3) The central question I routed as a dated progress line on [[question-verify-puckette-petiska-retrieval-magnet-third-instance]] and deliberately left `open` — partial progress, no forced closure. No new question created: the load-bearing doubt already has one, and the tooling gap is a defect, not a research promise.

**Entities.** All four named candidates already have hubs (Steck, Puckette, Petiška, Stent), and this capture teaches none of them anything new — it is a meta-structural comparison, not a fact about any person — so I touched no entity page. Olsder/Liang/Song Jian the capture itself flagged as "nothing new found," correctly.

**What felt off.** Two things. First, a small factual slip in the capture's own Entity-candidates section: it says "Petiška — not yet confirmed as having its own entity page," but [[entity-eduard-petiska]] has existed since 2026-09-13, the *day before* this capture was written. The capture under-checked the entity index. Minor, but it is exactly the kind of thing that, uncaught, seeds a duplicate hub. Second, and larger: this is the fourth session in a row to burn effort on a check it structurally cannot complete, and the capture is admirably honest about that — it refuses to record an assumed cosine value, which is the right call. But the pattern is worth naming plainly, and it is why I escalated the defect rather than re-logging it as one more mention. A thread that keeps producing "the mechanism would resolve this if triggered" notes, four weeks running, without ever pulling the trigger, is a thread whose busyness has decoupled from its progress. The tooling grant is the whole bottleneck.

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (auto-commit agent handles it).

## Seventh promotion run, same day

A seventh headless promotion, capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-15-is-qi-et-als-2023-finding-that-ten.md` — a batch
worker's targeted-search run asking whether
[[claim-qi-2023-ten-examples-cheaply-jailbreak-gpt35-turbo-via-fine-tuning|Qi
et al.'s ten-example, twenty-cent jailbreak]] is a *within-manifold* move in
the low-intrinsic-dimension subspace ordinary fine-tuning already occupies —
the LLM mirror of
[[claim-sadtler-2014-within-manifold-bci-learning-fast-outside-resists|Sadtler
et al.'s (2014) BCI within-/outside-manifold asymmetry]]. It's the empirical
arm of [[question-low-dimensional-subspace-one-object-or-analogy]], run as a
batch job, so no retrieve-before-write had happened — that was mine.

**What I promoted.** Four notes (one observation, three claims), one entity
stub, no new questions:

- [[observation-no-primary-source-links-qi-2023-jailbreak-to-sadtler-2014-within-manifold-asymmetry]]
  — the capture's payload, and a genuine non-finding: an exhaustive search found
*no* primary source drawing the Qi↔Sadtler comparison, in either direction.
The "within-manifold move" reading is the vault's own analogy-construction,
not a literature finding — recorded so a future reader can't mistake it for
one. Bounded negative, `[unverified — could not confirm/deny]` preserved.
- [[claim-ponkshe-2025-safety-subspaces-not-linearly-distinct-entangled-with-general-learning]],
  [[claim-springer-2026-finetuning-orthogonality-unstable-curvature-steers-into-alignment-subspace]],
  and [[claim-zhang-liu-shao-2023-intrinsic-finetuning-subspaces-task-specific-no-global-subspace]]
  — the three 2025–2026 primary papers that *are* the closest bearing evidence,
each a distinct Tier-1 quote. They pull against each other on purpose: Ponkshe
says safety was never a separate direction (entangled from the start); Springer
says it *is* a distinct low-rank subspace that early updates avoid and curvature
drags them into; Zhang/Liu/Shao say there is no single global "the" subspace at
all. Each rests on a different unrefereed preprint, so the single-source cap
(max three notes per primary) is nowhere near tripped — one note each.
- [[entity-alignment-instability-condition]] — a `watching` stub for Springer et
al.'s coined three-part condition (AIC). Per the entity spec's emerging-term
rule I stamped `first_seen: 2026-09-19` immediately rather than skipping — the
date can't be backfilled, and the capture itself flags AIC as a recurrence
candidate. It graduates to a hub only if the curvature-drift mechanism shows up
  in independent work.
- Updated, not just referenced: [[entity-intrinsic-dimension]] got a dated line
for the task-specific-vs-global-subspace distinction (the hub framed ID
per-task but never addressed whether a global subspace exists — now it does),
and [[entity-xiangyu-qi]] got a dated line linking the negative finding and the
new geometry cluster (the page didn't connect his jailbreak to the
  within-manifold question).

**Question ruling: partial, kept open.** The capture `verifies:` the
one-object-or-analogy question. It advances the *empirical within-/outside-manifold
test* that question explicitly named as a candidate next move — and the honest
result is that the literature doesn't make the comparison, so the arm is
unresolved, not answered. I appended a dated progress line laying out how the
three new papers pull in different directions and left the question `open`. No
new question created: no kept claim rests on a routable load-bearing doubt
beyond the bounded negative, which the existing question already owns. The pile
is a promise; I made none.

**What I skipped, and why** (full reasoning in the capture's `not_promoted:`
list). Four author-team entity candidates — the Li/Farkhoor/Liu/Yosinski (2018)
team, Ponkshe et al., Springer et al., Zhang/Liu/Shao — all single-work
first-vault-appearances *as persons*; per the entity spec's flood bias, no person
hubs. The 2018 team was the tempting one (it's the ancestral root the whole
subspace-geometry literature builds on), but that ancestry is already carried by
the concept hub [[entity-intrinsic-dimension]] and the existing
[[claim-li-2018-intrinsic-dimension-objective-landscape-codimension-parameter-space|Li 2018 claim-note]],
and I have no evidence the *persons* recur as actors in this vault. The
"task-specific vs. global subspace" concept candidate folded into the
intrinsic-dimension hub rather than fragmenting it into a sixth low-dimensional
concept page. Five "Further leads" (Teo 2507.20333; the 2510.02833 10-shot
follow-up; a manifold-trajectory defense paper; Qi's own 2406.05946 shallowness
paper; NeuroBreak) — all explicitly unread this session, left in inbox as
future captures.

**What felt off.** Almost nothing on sourcing — three clean Tier-1 quotes, shas
carried forward, TLS-verified at capture time, and the capture was scrupulous
about labelling its central comparison a non-finding rather than smuggling the
analogy in as a result. Two small things worth naming. First, one arXiv ID looks
future-dated for a paper "dated 2026-02-17" (2602.15799 — a Feb-2026 identifier);
consistent with the capture's own dates, but the verifier bee re-fetching each
source is the right place for that to get caught, not me retrying a network I
don't have. Second, and more interesting than a defect: the capture's *own*
commentary out-argued the question it was sent to answer. It set out to test a
clean within/outside-manifold split and came back with a better hypothesis —
"outside-manifold, but reachable by a curved path" — off the back of Springer's
curvature result. That reframing (a valley you fall into vs. a wall you can't
climb) is where the low-dimensional-adaptation thread is actually going, and I
logged it as a `[post]` candidate rather than burying it.

**Mid-session noticings, logged to `00-meta/seek-flags.md`:** an `[entity]` flag
— the low-dimensional-adaptation cluster is now ~13 notes across three domains
with [[observation-low-dimensional-subspace-constrains-adaptation-brains-and-nets]]
acting as an informal hub and no MOC (Warden territory, flagged not acted); and
the `[post]` essay-thread flag above.

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask;
winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the auto-commit
agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Promotion: 2026-09-16 capture — does McCarthy's 1973 control-theory dismissal engage the LQG lineage?

Promoted `10-inbox/raw/2026-09-16-does-john-mccarthys-1973-dismissal-of-control-theory.md`,
a Sonnet batch capture that did the thing the vault's existing McCarthy note never
did: read the *whole* 1973 Lighthill symposium — McCarthy's full review, Lighthill's
Part I, Sutherland's Part II, and the Needham/Longuet-Higgins/Michie Part III — not
just the one control-theory sentence, to test whether McCarthy's dismissal can be
tied textually to the optimal-control/LQG lineage the vault's Kwakernaak cluster
traces. The answer is a clean negative, and it's a good capture: honest sourcing,
Tier 1 primaries throughout, and it explicitly flags its own dead-end (a web-summary
"gloriously successful" quote it could not locate and refused to use).

**Four claims found, four promoted:**
- [[claim-mccarthy-1973-control-theory-clause-names-no-specific-subfield]] — McCarthy's
clause names no theorist/textbook/subfield, and the tell is that he *does* get
specific about statistical decision theory in the same breath. A distinct angle on
the existing [[claim-mccarthy-1973-control-theory-little-relevance-to-ai]], not a dup.
- [[claim-lighthill-1973-report-describes-automation-as-classical-control-technology]] —
Lighthill's own Part I says "classical control technology"/"control engineering,"
never "control theory." New primary fact; no prior note held it.
- [[claim-michie-1973-glossed-control-theory-as-automation-outgrowth]] — Michie's
"outgrowth from control theory" glosses the industrial-automation category.
- [[claim-1973-lighthill-symposium-names-no-optimal-control-lqg-lineage]] — the
headline corpus-wide absence, answering the core question and qualifying the vault's
  own bridge ([[observation-kwakernaak-lqg-textbook-bridges-population-policy-and-mccarthy-1973-dismissal]]).

**Collisions checked:** the three existing McCarthy-1973 claim-notes, the Kwakernaak
bridge observation, and the Kwakernaak/Sivan reference note — all linked from the new
notes rather than duplicated. The new claims are absence/textual findings the existing
cluster didn't hold. All four notes carry `writer_model: claude-opus-4-8`, the correct
`source_sha` per primary (McCarthy dfb56228…, Lighthill 2189f128…, Michie 6df202b3…),
`audit_status: capture-verified`, and `status: seedling`.

**Entities:** created [[entity-donald-michie]] as a hub (real, load-bearing British-AI
figure, Lighthill's de-facto target, now anchoring a claim — one-sentence-why easy).
Appended an additive log line to the existing [[entity-rudolf-kalman]] page recording
the 1973 absence (he'd had a page but nothing about being unnamed in the debate).
Left Sutherland as a mention (further-lead only), and did **not** build the
optimal-control/LQG *concept* hub — flagged it `[entity]` in seek-flags.md instead;
bias against the flood, and `moc-backpropagation-origins` already carries much of it.

**Questions:** none routed. The kept claims are self-contained textual/absence
findings; no number or mechanism they rest on needs verification beyond the verifier
bee's verbatim sweep, which they're already queued for. The two matching questions
(`question-verify-mccarthy-1973-lighthill-rebuttal-quotes`,
`question-verify-lighthill-1973-report-quotes`) are already answered/archived, so no
closure to do. Resisted routing the "did McCarthy name Kalman elsewhere?" lead — it's
future work, not a load-bearing doubt.

**Skipped (in `not_promoted:`):** the unlocatable "gloriously successful" web-summary
quote, Sutherland's positive-mention lead (folded to a watch_flag), the "fifty
consulted names" historiography aside, and the out-of-1973 McCarthy question.

**What felt off:** honestly, very little — this is the cleanest kind of capture,
where a batch worker went back to a source the vault thought it had already mined and
found the surrounding pages tell a sharper story than the pull-quote. If anything, the
mild worry is the *other* direction: four notes off one document-cluster read risks
looking like slicing. I kept all four because each rests on a different primary quote
(three separate documents plus the aggregate), and the aggregate note is the actual
answer to the question — but a future lint should watch whether McCarthy-1973 is
becoming over-sharded. The single-source concentration cap doesn't bite here (these
are textual claims *about* what the documents say, where the document is definitionally
its own primary), but it's worth noting McCarthy's review now anchors four vault notes.

## Promotion: 2026-09-16 capture — has anyone overlaid the 1871-1932 braille geography onto today's Nemeth/UEB split?

Promoted `10-inbox/raw/2026-09-16-has-anyone-actually-overlaid-the-1871-1932-braillenew.md`, a Sonnet batch capture that is the third pass at the same standing question ([[question-verify-nemeth-ueb-state-mandates-split]]): does the modern state-by-state Nemeth-vs-UEB map echo the 1871-1932 Braille/New York Point war? A month after the 2026-08-22 capture, run with fresh query strategies, it surfaced one substantial *earlier* primary and, again, no overlay. Honest capture — clean sourcing, and it says plainly that the central question is still not answerable, not just unanswered.

**Three claims found → two promoted, one folded.**
- [[claim-cook-walker-2015-named-war-of-the-dots-and-logged-earliest-nemeth-ueb-state-roster]] — Carlton Anne Cook Walker's December 2015 *Braille Monitor* essay "A Cry for Unity" named the "War of the Dots" *by title* a month before UEB rollout (where the already-vaulted Jacobson piece only asked rhetorically), and logged the earliest state roster the vault has found: 14 of 21 declared states retaining Nemeth, 29 undeclared. Tier 2, capture-verified. Genuinely distinct from the Jacobson note — earlier, more explicit, and it carries a roster Jacobson's didn't.
- [[claim-nemeth-ueb-state-split-settled-gradually-2015-2022-not-at-rollout]] — the trajectory claim: the Nemeth-default column grew 14→31+DC between the two located snapshots, so the split *accreted* over years rather than snapping into place at rollout, a process-resemblance to Irwin's institution-by-institution history. Kept the capture's `[unverified-quant — needs primary]` flag on both endpoints and said in the body exactly why the two counts can't be subtracted (declared intention in 2015 vs. enacted default in 2022, different questions). Seedling.

The third "claim" — the central-question status ("has anyone done the overlay?") — is a null result and a restatement of the open question, so I folded it into a dated progress line on the question rather than making a standalone note. Its one positive nugget (the parallel was named *at the moment of formation*) is already the substance of the Cook Walker note.

**Collisions.** Checked all the retrieve hints. The Jacobson, BEAR-2022, BANA-2012, Irwin institution-by-institution, and notation-vs-script notes all exist and are heavily wikilinked from the two new notes rather than duplicated. The new notes are a distinct earlier-primary angle and a distinct trajectory-synthesis angle, not re-treads.

**Question ruling: partial, kept open.** The overlay still hasn't been done by anyone in the citable literature, and there's still no primary Tier-1 roster on either side — so I appended a 2026-09-19 progress line naming the two new notes and left `status: open`. No new question routed: the load-bearing doubt (a primary state roster) is exactly what the existing question already promises. Few promises.

**Entities.** Ran the spec test on all three candidates. Built two hubs: [[entity-william-bell-wait]] (long-overdue — the sighted designer of New York Point, the foundational figure the entire historical side is measured against, flagged as a gap across three separate captures now) and [[entity-carlton-anne-cook-walker]] (previously judged "byline of one source" on 2026-08-22, but this session she clears the bar on a *second, more substantial* appearance — she ran the NFB's braille-uniformity campaign in her Jernigan Institute capacity and now anchors two load-bearing notes). Did **not** promote the AAIB: it fails the stricter org bar (single-cluster, not load-bearing across more than one independent cluster) and stays a mention. The New York Point and Robert B. Irwin pages already exist and this capture teaches them nothing new (it's about the modern roster, not the historical mechanics), so I left them untouched — silence there is correct, not a dropped update.

**What felt off.** Very little on sourcing — this is a disciplined capture that refused to round its negative up into a positive. Two things worth naming. First, mild tier-honesty to watch: the capture asserts Cook Walker's 14-of-21 count "clears the quantitative floor" at Tier 2, and it does by the letter (named author, NFB's official magazine) — but it's an advocacy *canvass of declared intentions*, the same self-report caveat the BEAR count carries, and I made sure both new notes say so in the body rather than inheriting a clean-looking number. Second, this is now the third capture on the identical question in two months, and each one honestly reports the same core negative (no overlay, no primary roster) while adding one more piece of texture. That's not wasted — the Cook Walker primary genuinely predates and sharpens what the vault had — but the thread is approaching the ceiling of what a search-only session can settle: the real next move is a library-access problem (the AAIB's 1871-1880 convention proceedings on the Internet Archive for a historical institution roster), which I named in the question's progress line rather than implying another web capture would crack it.

**Mid-session noticing, logged to `00-meta/seek-flags.md` (`[entity]`):** the braille / War-of-the-Dots / Nemeth-UEB cluster is now 8+ claim-notes plus four entity hubs and an open question, well past the §6 "5+ shared-theme → MOC" threshold, with no MOC. Flagged a `moc-braille-standards-war` pass as owed (Warden/MOC territory, not a promotion edit), not acted on inline.

**Final-mark verification.** Re-read the capture's frontmatter from disk after writing: `status: promoted` landed with the four-item `promoted_to:` and the four-item `not_promoted:` narrative (folded central-question, SAGE 403 methodological note, further leads, and the AAIB org-bar skip).

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask; winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Promotion: 2026-09-16 capture — is there a contemporaneous (1971-72) record corroborating Swann's remote-viewing coinage?

Promoted `10-inbox/raw/2026-09-16-is-there-a-contemporaneous-1971-72-record-independently.md`, a Sonnet batch capture aimed straight at [[question-verify-swann-remote-viewing-priority-contemporaneous-record]]: is there any 1971-72 document, independent of Ingo Swann's own later memoir, that corroborates his account of proposing "remote viewing" around December 8, 1971? It came back with one genuinely contemporaneous document and a clean, honest non-answer.

**One note promoted.** [[claim-aspr-newsletter-1972-corroborates-swann-program-not-remote-viewing-term]] — the *ASPR Newsletter*, No. 14 (Summer 1972), a bylined Karlis Osis article surviving only as a CIA-declassified scan (it's a scan of the Society's own newsletter, not a CIA document). It independently corroborates the *scenery* of Swann's story — Swann as ASPR's principal OOBE subject in 1971-72, the polygraph-and-hidden-targets setup, and Janet Mitchell as the researcher who actually ran his sessions — while never once using "remote viewing"/"remote sensing" in ~1,400 words and never documenting the naming session itself. Tier 1, verbatim quote, `source_sha` carried forward, `audit_status: capture-verified`, `status: seedling`, `writer_model: claude-opus-4-8`.

**Collisions checked** (retrieve-before-write): the two existing cluster notes ([[claim-swann-1971-aspr-memoir-self-credits-remote-viewing-coinage]], [[claim-wikipedia-remote-viewing-infobox-contradicts-own-body-on-coining-credit]]) both exist and are heavily audited; I linked both from the new note rather than duplicating. The new note is a distinct contemporaneous-primary angle neither existing note held. The semantic-index hint's top results were all Rothschild/customer-contractor notes — embedding false friends for this topic; ignored.

**What I folded or skipped** (full reasoning in the capture's `not_promoted:` list):
- Claim 1 (no contemporaneous doc names the Dec 8 session) is a null result and a restatement of the open question — folded as the bounded negative inside the ASPR note and made a dated progress line on the question.
- Claim 3 (secondary retellings add Mitchell as a fourth naming-session participant) I did **not** promote as its own note. Its load-bearing half — that secondary sources say so — rests on uncited, un-URLed Tier 3-4 material plus "general search-engine synthesis," below the floor and with no `source_url`/`sha` to even cite. The groundable core (Mitchell's Tier-1-documented real role; the primary-vs-secondary discrepancy) folded into the ASPR note as a `[unverified — needs primary]` caveat and into her new entity page. This was the one winnowing call I sat with, and I came down conservative: I won't mint a claim-note whose central assertion I can't point a URL at.
- Further leads (Targ's unread 2012 memoir; the newsletter's "8 of 8, ~1 in 40,000" OOB stat, tangential; earlier Newsletter Nos. 12-13, not located; IRVA timelines) left in inbox.

**Question ruling: partial, kept open.** The capture found a contemporaneous document but not the corroboration the question asked for. Appended a dated progress line naming the new note, what it settles (the surroundings) and what it doesn't (the coinage), and the two live avenues (Targ's memoir; the earlier newsletter issues). No new question created — the load-bearing doubt is exactly what the existing question already owns, and the Mitchell-at-session sub-doubt rides along as a flag rather than a fresh promise.

**Entities.** Built two hubs: [[entity-karlis-osis]] (byline on the sole contemporaneous primary, and one of the two who chose the term per Swann's memoir) and [[entity-janet-mitchell]] (the contemporaneously-documented session-runner who's oddly absent from every primary account of the naming — a good vault-domain fit: the erased-researcher shape this cluster already circles). Updated [[entity-ingo-swann]] with a dated line for the newsletter + Mitchell, both of which the page didn't mention. Declined Gertrude Schmeidler (already declined last capture, nothing new) and Russell Targ (memoir unread — no vault claim rests on his own words yet); logged Targ's page-less recurrence as an `[entity]` flag in `00-meta/seek-flags.md`. Left [[entity-hal-puthoff]] untouched — this capture teaches it nothing new; silence there is correct.

**What felt off.** Very little on discipline — the capture is admirably honest, and its own commentary already names the shape ("I found *something* dated 1972... I didn't find the corroboration"). Three small things worth naming. (1) The one weak spot is Claim 3's sourcing: "encyclopedia.com's Swann entry, remote-viewing history pages, and general search-engine synthesis" is not a citation, and I declined to build on it — a reminder that a well-shaped discrepancy narrative can still be under-sourced at its base. (2) No tier inflation anywhere; the capture correctly held its central finding as a non-answer rather than rounding "found a 1972 document" up to "found corroboration." (3) This is now the third capture in this remote-viewing-credit lineage in five days (the 2026-09-15 hop, its promotion, now this), and like the braille and Liang threads it's approaching the ceiling of what a search-only, no-network session can settle: the decisive next move is a library-access problem (Targ's borrow-restricted memoir; the un-digitized earlier ASPR newsletters), which I named in the question's progress line rather than implying another web capture would crack it.

**Final-mark verification.** Re-read the capture's frontmatter from disk after writing: `status: promoted` landed, with the three-item `promoted_to:` and the five-item `not_promoted:` narrative (folded Claim 1, declined Claim 3 with the sourcing reasoning, further leads, Schmeidler, Targ).

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (no one to ask; winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Promotion run 2 — `2026-09-17-bipartite-two-things-this-vault-knows-in-different.md`

Second headless promotion today, this one a bridge-seed check: the batch worker paired [[claim-optimization-as-theory-of-mind-two-lineages]] and [[claim-gigerenzer-camp-defines-ecological-rationality-as-not-optimization]] at cosine 0.85 and asked whether the resemblance is a real mechanism or an embedding false friend. The capture had already done the disciplined thing — instead of re-researching, it checked the two sibling captures that are the direct origin of both named notes (2026-07-11 optimization-as-theory-of-mind; 2026-07-31 Gigerenzer-not-optimization) and read the answer off their existing Tier-1 findings.

**What I promoted.** One note, no questions:

- [[observation-optimization-lineages-gigerenzer-pairing-is-confirmed-bridge-via-rational-analysis]] — the verdict: the pairing is a **confirmed bridge, but mediated**. Both seed notes are already one hop from [[claim-rational-analysis-anderson-optimal-solution-marr-level]] — Werbos and Anderson bet on optimization as a theory of mind; Gigerenzer's camp names "Bayesian models of cognition" (the family rational analysis instantiates) as exactly the bet it declines. So the cosine caught two ends of one argument that both already lean on a third node the vault carries. Never a hidden link — a missing *direct* edge over existing connective tissue. Same species as the 2026-08 gates-jevons/liang-olsder confirmed meta-bridge.

**Winnowing (3 capture-claims → 1 note).** Claim 1 (Gigerenzer's flag targets the Werbos/OC family via rational analysis) is already covered by the existing Gigerenzer note and the contested-not-compatible observation — its only new part, the bridge verdict for *this* pairing, folded into the promoted note rather than duplicating two existing notes. Claim 3 (the notes were correctly never directly linked; resemblance real, tissue one note over) *was* the atomic new contribution and became the note. Claim 2 (no direct Werbos–Gigerenzer citation traffic) is a search-based absence-of-evidence finding carrying its own `[unverified]` flag — folded in as a caveat that the bridge is mediated, not promoted standalone, and deliberately **not** routed to 50-questions/: the verdict rests on the positively-documented rational-analysis hinge, not on the absence, so there's no load-bearing open doubt to owe (intake discipline — make few promises).

**Questions.** None created, none closed. The capture originated from a batch cosine probe, not an open question; the two questions in this neighborhood ([[question-verify-ecological-rationality-vs-rational-analysis-compatibility]], [[question-resource-rational-analysis-sharpest-werbos-anderson-bridge]]) were already answered and archived to `_answered/` in the sibling runs.

**Entities.** All three candidates (Anderson, Simon, Werbos) already have hubs — no new pages. `entity-john-anderson.md` **already states the exact substance** of this finding ("sits opposite Gigerenzer's ecological rationality in the vault's optimization-vs-heuristics thread," links both endpoints), so I left it untouched — silence there is correct, not an omission. `entity-paul-werbos.md` was **silent** on this role, so I appended one dated additive line giving his optimization bet its place at one pole of the three-way structure and linking the new note. Simon / Gigerenzer taught nothing new.

**What felt off.** Little on discipline — the capture is honest and correctly refused to re-research, reusing already-verified Tier-1 quotes rather than pretending to re-fetch (right call for a no-network run). Three small things. (1) Mild redundancy: Claims 1 and 3 are two facings of a single verdict, and Claim 1's content substantially duplicates two notes the vault already holds — the capture reads as three claims but is really one promotable observation, which is why the winnow collapsed 3→1. (2) Minor tier/entity inflation: the capture flags Paul Werbos as "worth flagging explicitly here" as a standalone entity candidate "not found flagged in either sibling" — but he's had `entity-paul-werbos.md` since 2026-05-31. Not wrong that he's hub-worthy; just already done, and worth noting the capture didn't check. (3) The genuinely open thread the capture surfaces is a real one and I logged it as a `[watch]` on seek-flags rather than a question: nobody — not the siblings, not this session — has set resource-rational analysis's *bounded* optimization directly against Gigerenzer's good-enough heuristics. That's the sharp version of the optimal-vs-good-enough axis and possible post material.

**Final-mark verification.** Re-read the capture's frontmatter from disk after writing: `status: promoted` landed, with the one-item `promoted_to:` and the five-item `not_promoted:` narrative (folded Claim 1, folded+flagged Claim 2 with the no-question reasoning, Claim 3 as the note, the further leads, and the all-hubs-exist entity note).

**Skipped per headless protocol:** the pause-for-Cali step (winnowed on my own judgment, logged above) and any git command (the auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).
