Canadian argumentation theorist (1942-2020), author of *Arguments from Ignorance* (Penn State UP, 1996), a book-length study of inferences drawn from the absence of evidence. Matters to this vault as the source of the competing classification to [[entity-peter-lipton|Lipton's]]: where Lipton treats the historiographical *argument from silence* as inference to the best explanation, [[entity-timothy-mcgrew|McGrew]] (2013) reports Walton classifying it instead as a species of the broader argument-from-ignorance family — leaving the vault's own recurring negative-finding method ([[moc-argument-from-silence]]) with two rival philosophical homes rather than one settled name.
