Document No. 112 (Moscow Helsinki Monitoring Group, 1979)

A 1979 samizdat document, "Discrimination against Jews entering the university," signed by Elena Bonner, S. Kallistratova, I. Kovalev, M. Landa, N. Meiman, T. Osipova, and Yu. Yarym-Ageev of the Moscow Helsinki Monitoring Group. It incorporated statistical data collected by B.I. Kanevskii and V.A. Senderov, and is itself cited internally by their later 1980 report "Intellectual Genocide" for its working definition of "Jew." Matters to this vault as the likelier true documentary source of the Mekh-mat 47-vs-40 admission-rate table this vault had misattributed to "Intellectual Genocide" — a misattribution that a direct read of "Intellectual Genocide" itself argues strongly against, though not terminally: that absence is flagged [unverified-absence], since the text read is the 2005 composite reconstructed from incomplete carbon copies. Corrected to a strong-but-not-terminal finding carrying [unverified-absence], per the CORRECTED 2026-08-22 cross-model audit of claim-mekh-mat-47-vs-40-table-not-in-intellectual-genocide-1980-origin-likely-document-112: the text read is the 2005 composite reconstructed from three incomplete carbon copies, the English version omits at least one table appended to the Russian original, and Shifman's own editorial introduction nonetheless describes the essay as "based on a study of 87 Moscow high school graduates from six special math schools" — 47 + 40 = 87, six schools, which is Shen's table and not anything the translation prints. This page's standing point is unaffected: Document 112 remains the likelier documentary source, and remains unlocated.
